In 2015, the World Renju Championship and the World Gomoku Championship will be held in Russia, in the Leningrad Region. The exact venue of the competition is still unknown, but it is likely that it will be St. Petersburg.

Renju World Championships are held every two years, in odd years, separately for men and women. The first Renju World Championship was held in Kyoto in 1989 (women’s championships have been held only since 1997). Next year, the fourteenth World Renju Championship will take place.

The previous Renju and Gomoku World Championships were held in 1013 in Estonia (Tallinn). According to renju, the opening regulation was Yamaguchi. Then the Estonian also won – Tunnet Taimla. Attila Demyan (Hungary) became the champion in gomoku.

In gomoku, the world championships were held with a long break: after 1991, the next one was held only in 2009. Since 2009, they have been held regularly, simultaneously with the World Renju Championship.

The World Championship will traditionally be held in early August. In parallel with the championship, an open tournament will also be held, where everyone can take part.
