China can rightfully be considered the birthplace of the game Renju. There she appeared in the XX century. But, as many scientists believe, the game originated much earlier. According to some excavations in ancient Greece, the game was already known. Around 300 BC, in the country of the rising sun of Japan, the “Renju Second Renaissance” took place. Then it was called “Kaguto”, which means “five steps”. Books on the rules, methods, description of the game “Kaguto” began to appear only at the beginning of the XIX century. This can be associated with a variety of game titles. For example, Goseki, Gomoku, Goren, Gomokunarab. In the XX century, a modern and familiar name appeared – Renju. Now it is used for playing with forbidden moves and only with black chips, but Gomoku – without forbidden moves.

The term itself, as we see it now, means “string of pearls”. It was invented in 1899 by Tenri Kobayashi. Why such a poetic image was created is hard to say. Perhaps this is a winning row of white and black pebbles, resembling a pearl, and maybe a victory in the game, after all, to reach it is as difficult as getting pearls from the bottom of the sea. But no matter how cool you are in Renju past, and the present is a lot of poetic and inspirational. What are only the names of debuts: Meteor, Flower, Asteroid, Cold Star and Distant, a number of others. Undoubtedly, the poetic nature of the Japanese plays a role here. Poetry stitched their whole life, way of life, games, music and creativity.
