On November 22 and 23, the 3rd and 4th games of the 52nd Meijin match between the challenger Yuuki Oosumi and the current Meijin of Japan Shigeru Nakamura took place. Both games ended in a draw and the score thus became 2.5: 1.5 in favor of Oosumi, who won the first game. Now, in order to retain the title of the major, Nakamura must win in the final fifth game, which will be held in January next year.
Nakamura is a legend of Japanese and world renju, a two-time world champion, occupies the first line in the international rating list. He won his first mezhdzhin title back in 1977, in total, he won 24 mezhdzhin titles from 52. Nakamura took a ten-year break (since 2002), during which he did not participate in Meijin matches. In 2012, in the 50th Meydzhin match, he again won the title of Meydzhin, beating Oosumi with a score of 3: 2, and in 2013 in the match with Oosumi retained the title.
Yuki Oosumi is a representative of the younger generation of Japanese players. The title of the major for the first time won in 2010, at the World Championships in 2013, took second place.
Nakamura and Oosumi are probably the strongest Japanese players today and the whole world is watching with their opposition. Until now, Oosumi has failed to beat Nakamura in the major matches. Now, having an advantage of one point, he has a good chance of becoming the 52nd major of Japan.
